Mother Corener Hines-Herring
Born on September 12, 1937 in Haynes, Arkansas, to Governor and Corener Harris, she attended Dunbar High School in Earle, Arkansas and later attended training at Milwaukee Area Technical College.
In 1957, she married Willie Lawrence Hines and they were blessed to have 10 children.
After being married for nearly 50 years, he preceded her in death.
In 2008, she married Timothy Herring, who lovingly shared six wonderful years together.
She spent the first 16 years of life in Arkansas. She moved to St Louis, Missouri for a brief stay in 1954 before settling in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
She was a seasonal worker at The Wisconsin State Fair for many years and also worked as a Teacher’s aide briefly. However, her “real” job was always Wife and Mother.
At a young age, Corener and her younger brother, Govenor, made an agreement that whoever found the right way to live would tell the other.
It was 1956 when her brother informed her that he had found the “right way” at a little church called, “Westside Church of God in Christ.”
At her first visit, she was challenged by the preacher and accepted the Lord as her Savior.
It was the beginning of a 60 year Walk with God.
After years of serving as Missionary, Musician, Sunday School teacher, Prayer Leader and whatever else her hands found to do, she eventually found herself serving as the Pastor’s wife where she garnered the infamous name “Mother Hines”.
The church was later renamed “Greater Westside Church of God in Christ” where they served until her husband retired.
She worked in the Women’s Department of Southeastern Wisconsin in various capacities and served as a National Evangelist Missionary in the Church of God in Christ, Intl.
For the past years, she has served as Senior Advisor and Chief Intercessor at Christian Faith Fellowship Church.
Everyone was aware of her love for prayer, praise, family and God.
She was active in the life of her children at school, at church and at home.
She was active in the Parent Teacher Association and served as the President the Steering Committee for The Milwaukee Public Schools for five years.
She was also a licensed foster mom of Milwaukee County and offered her home as a safe haven to over 30 children and adolescents over ten years.
Today, she is proud of each one of her children’s accomplishments in life.
Mother Hines is a favored featured soloist at concerts, church services and funerals.
In 1997, she was featured on the CD “I Give Up All” by her daughter, Phebe Hines; where she sang “I Know the Lord Will Make a Way.”
Her strong rendition of this timeless spiritual led to her being featured on the Stellar Awards Show in 1998.
For her participation in the Stellar Awards, she is listed as an Actor on Yahoo TV.
She is a featured lead singer on the CD “Chicago Sings Gospel’s Greatest Hymns.” In 2009, she was blessed to release her own CD.
In 1998, the United States Post Office honored Mother Corener Hines for her Humanitarianism at their Annual “Women Putting Their Stamp on Metro Milwaukee” Award. This award was in recognition for her volunteerism, community service and dedication.

Survivors include her children, Janet Samolyk, Darrell & Pamela Hines, Phebe Hines, Robin & Harold Young, Willie & Janel Hines, Daven & Tanya Hines, Bridget & Curtis Flowers, Sharon & Mark Monroe, Rhoda & Jason Turner, Richard & Liza Hines; 22 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren all of Milwaukee a special daughter, Millie Coby.
Four sisters; Indiana Johnson of Milwaukee, Dorothy Lee of Las Vegas, Queen Kelly (Rayford) of Denver, Colorado, Mary (Arthur) Ludarius, four brothers; Joel Harris, Sr; Governor (Christine) Harris of Milwaukee, William (Betsy) of Alton, Illinois; Thomas (Lena); one loving sister-in-law Lula Belle Harris. Corener was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Hines, her parents, four sisters, Willie Mae Scruggs, Annie Mae Horton, Mae Dale Pharm and Annie Bell Williams; two brothers; George and Luther Harris.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Christian Faith Fellowship Church, 8605 W. Good Hope Road in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Entombment will be at Graceland Memorial Cemetery. Services will be held following the funeral.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a special viewing from 9:30 am – 11:00 am on Saturday prior to the funeral.
Repast will be held at the Destiny Plaza on 76th and Good Hope after the Entombment.
