Vote David Crowley for Milwaukee County Executive

April 4, 2020

By Milwaukee Courier Staff

On Tuesday, we have the opportunity to make history by electing Milwaukee County’s first African American County Executive. What is even more exciting about this prospect is the quality of candidate that we have the opportunity to vote for. The Milwaukee Courier is proud to endorse State Rep. David Crowley to be the next Milwaukee County Executive.

Crowley currently represents nearly 70,000 City of Milwaukee residents in the State Legislature. He is the chair of the Black Caucus, the chair of the Milwaukee Caucus, and the vice chair of the Black and Latino Caucus. In his time in legislature, Crowley has risen through the ranks and shown that he has the ability to lead. He also has demonstrated the ability to not just work well with his Democratic colleagues, but has also been able to reach across the aisle to get things done for our community.

This is a skill that will be sorely needed in the next Milwaukee County Executive.

In the State Legislature, Crowley has championed numerous issues that directly affect this community, from racial inequity and affordable housing, to trying to combat reckless driving. He was also instrumental in bringing both Democrats and Republicans together to shut down the Lincoln Hills facility and bring our incarcerated youth back to our community.

Crowley grew up in Milwaukee’s 53206 neighborhood and understands the issues that affect the people of our community, because he has been through many of them himself. He is the only candidate that has shown a true understanding of the fact that Milwaukee County might be working great for some, but a lot of our residents are being left behind.

Somewhat surprisingly for a Black candidate running Countywide, Crowley has been able to secure the endorsements of the mayors of West Allis, Wauwatosa, Greenfield, and Glendale and the Village Presidents of Hales Corners, Whitefish Bay, and Bayside. His message of unity is resonating not just in the black community, but also among Milwaukee County’s more affluent and predominantly white suburbs. Crowley said he is running to “build a bridge between Milwaukee County’s thriving and struggling communities.” We believe that he is the only candidate who can do just that.

We are facing an unprecedented public health crisis, a community that is more divided than ever, and an increasingly hostile political climate. We need to elect a County Executive that can put politics aside and do what is right for the people of this community. The choice couldn’t be clearer, we must elect Crowley to be the next Milwaukee County Executive.

We are in the midst of a health crisis, and we must be careful. If you requested an absentee ballot, fill it out and send it back right away. If you are going to vote on election day, it’s likely that your polling place will have been moved. Make sure to look up where your new polling place is before you go out on Tuesday to vote.

Voting is your right. Voting is your duty. Even in the midst of a crisis, we can’t let our community’s voices be silenced.

GO VOTE
