INTERMEDIATE PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
PUBLIC NOTIFICATION:
Research to study the effectiveness of continuous chest compressions versus standard cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with interrupted chest compressions for adult patients suffering cardiac arrest will begin March 2012 in Milwaukee County. Successful resuscitation in humans experiencing cardiac arrest is associated with greater blood flow during CPR. Continuous chest compressions may provide better blood flow compared with standard CPR. Researchers at the Medical College of Wisconsin will compare survival rates and quality of life for cardiac arrest patients receiving either standard CPR or continuous compression CPR.This study meets the FDA guidelines for exception to informed consent under emergency circumstances because informed consent cannot be obtained from a victim of sudden cardiac arrest. For details, on the risks and benefits, exception to informed consent under emergency circumstances, opt-out bracelets and other aspects of the study please call Dr.Tom Aufderheide at (414) 805-6493, email at taufderh@mcw.edu, or visit the WEB site at ( www.mcw.edu/ROCCCC ).
