For over forty-five years, the Social Development Commission (SDC) has served as a planner, coordinator, and implementer of human service programs for low-income individuals and families in Milwaukee County. We currently have the following job openings with our Head Start Program:
ASSISTANT TEACHER
This position helps the Teacher oversee and guide children ages 3 – 5 years in the development of personal and social habits, their cognitive and physical development. Supports the management of children in the classroom. The minimum job requirement for this position consists of a High School Diploma or equivalent and satisfactory completion of Early Childhood I and Early Childhood II classes. Education and training in one of the following requirements: Child Development Associate (CDA) certification or an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or a Bachelor’s degree in Education and CDA will increase the starting pay rate and level. By September 2013, the Assistant Teacher position will require successful completion the CDA certification.
TEACHER
This position is responsible for classroom management and works with assigned staff to oversee and guide children ages 3 – 5 years in the development of personal and social habits, their cognitive and physical development. Provides coaching assistance; in addition to, onthe- job training and support for new teachers. The minimum job requirements for this position consist of a Bachelor’s Degree in teaching with pre-school teaching experience and either the completion of four basic Early Childhood Education (ECE) credits or The Child Development Associate (CDA) certification. A Master’s degree in ECE with completed courses in education with pre-school teaching experience will increase the starting pay rate and level. By September 2013, the minimum requirement for the Teacher position will be a Bachelor’s degree.
HEALTH COORDINATOR
This position is responsible for providing and overseeing direct services and coordinate with outside service providers fro health and dental services to 1000+ children in Milwaukee County. Staffs and coordinates the SDC Head Start Sites Health Committees; and also, attends Family Assessment Planning meetings at SDC sites and citywide health and advisory committee meeting. The minimum job requirements for this position consist of a degree in a health related field, such as Community Health and three years related experience. A LPN or RN will increase the starting pay rate. This position requires experience working directly with children and preparing and carrying out health workshops/fairs. This position travels to Head Start sites in Milwaukee County; a valid driver’s license, a car and insurance is also required. The incumbent must be qualified to teach First Aid and CPR courses; as well as, blood borne pathogens sessions. Knowledge of Wisconsin and Head Start program requirements is desired.
The benefits package includes health insurance, a pension plan, tuition reimbursement; eligibility for personal days; sick days, as well as, paid time-off during the winter and spring breaks. The Head Start Program follows the MPS calendar, working from August through May.
