Milwaukee County has an immediate opening for an experienced risk management professional with demonstrated ability to lead a division that is responsible for the provision of a comprehensive risk management program to minimize the County’s property and casualty liabilities and to ensure the health and safety of employees, residents and guests utilizing County services and facilities. The Risk Manager is appointed by the Director of the Department of Administrative Services and serves under his/her leadership.
Milwaukee County: Milwaukee County has the largest population within the State of Wisconsin with just under one million residents. The County serves approximately 5,800 employees and averages over 3,000 applicants monthly and has a diverse workforce of approximately 39%. Milwaukee County consists of the nineteen (19) municipalities, including the City of Milwaukee and its surrounding areas.
Organizational Role: The Risk Manager is responsible for ensuring Milwaukee County assets and liabilities are effectively protected, providing a safe and healthy environment for County workers and the general public, investigating and processing work related injury claims in an efficient and cost-effective manner, educating departments on loss experience and serving as a resource for implementing best practices in reduction, reporting, an mitigation of losses; maintaining communication with departments relating to claim reporting, loss information and methods of loss control with emphasis on reducing worker’s compensation claim exposure and providing enhanced coordination of the Occupational Health Program into overall loss control efforts. The Risk Manager reports directly to the Fiscal and Budget Administrator in the Fiscal Affairs Division of the Department of Administrative Services.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Insurance, Risk Management, or related field including coursework in Safety from an accredited college or university, CPCU, ARM, and/or AIC are desirable.
Experience: Seven (7) years of experience in Risk Management field in a large institution, preferably with the public sector. Experience in property, liability, and worker’s compensation, claims administration, and related supervisory experience is desirable.
The successful candidate must establish Milwaukee County residency within six (6) months of appointment. Milwaukee County provides a competitive benefits package.
Effective October 1st, 1998, background checks must be conducted on all individuals appointed to positions covered by Wisconsin Act 27 of the laws of 1997 and Wisconsin State Statute 50.5065. This requirement impacts all positions authorized in Milwaukee County Department of Human Services, Mental Health Division, as well as other positions in County Service.
