Potawatomi Bingo Casino’s ‘Miracle on Canal Street’ now accepting charity applications

May 26, 2011

Applications are now being accepted for Potawatomi Bingo Casino’s annual signature community program – Miracle on Canal Street. Local non-profit organizations which serve children can find the application online at www.paysbig.com/miracle. Applications must be post-marked by Wednesday, June 29.

Miracle on Canal Street ’s mission is to improve the quality of life for children in southeastern Wisconsin. Through funds raised from special bingo games and the generosity of Potawatomi Bingo Casino guests, the program focuses the joy of holiday giving onto those who are the hope for the future.

Since its inception in 1994, Miracle on Canal Street has contributed more than $10.5 million to more than 300 nonprofits. In 2010, 30 children’s charities in southeastern Wisconsin shared in funds totaling nearly $1 million.

Last year, Miracle on Canal Street funding improved the lives of children in our community by supporting projects that addressed everything from basic needs to specialized therapy, from educational programs to extracurricular activities. Miracle funding in 2011 provided low-income mothers and their babies with a new portable crib and a baby layette through the Hope Network’s Portable Crib Program. It also granted physical and psychological therapy to children through equine-assisted activities through Helping Hands, Healing Hooves of Ozaukee County and LifeStriders, Inc., of Waukesha County.

To be eligible, an organization must have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, serve a primary client base of children younger than 18 years of age and be located within Milwaukee, Racine, Washington, Waukesha, Ozaukee, Dodge, Jefferson, Kenosha, Sheboygan or Walworth counties. A complete list of submission guidelines is available at www.paysbig.com/miracle.
