Expecting a higher than average turnout for the April 5 Spring Election / Presidential Primary, the City of Milwaukee is recruiting and hiring an additional 200 election workers to assist at the city’s 195 polling places.
Election workers check-in and issue ballots to registered voters, conduct voter registration and assist the public on Election Day.
“This is a call to the public to become more involved in democracy and to support fair, accurate and transparent elections,” said Neil Albrecht, Election Commission Executive Director. “We have a very good core crew of election workers, but we want to ensure we are fully prepared for the Spring Election. Serving as an election worker role models to the public a great spirit of civic responsibility, plus election workers feel real pride at the completion of the election.”
Qualifications include:
- Must be qualified to vote
- Reside in Milwaukee County (not limited to the City of Milwaukee)
- Proficient reading and writing skills and the ability to quickly process instructions
- The ability to work well with the public
Election workers receive $130 in compensation for working a full day or $65 for working half day (AM or PM shift), plus $15 for attending training.

Additionally, the Election Commission is reminding all voters that early (in-person absentee) voting begins Monday, March 21 at 8:30 a.m. at the Zeidler Municipal Building, 841 N. Broadway. Early voting will continue Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. until Friday, April 1.
“Early voting provides a significant voting opportunity for any person concerned about their Election Day schedule,” said Albrecht. “It is a quick, efficient process that usually only takes between 5 and 10 minutes.”
Designated voter parking for early voting is available on E. Kilbourn between S. Water St. and S. Broadway, and along Broadway between E. Kilbourn St. and E. Wells St.
