Parklawn Assembly of God Announces New Sr. Associate Pastor

July 13, 2019

Pastor Marcus L. Arrington

Dr. Marcus L. Arrington will join the pastoral staff of Parklawn Assembly of God as the new Senior Associate Pastor in mid-July 2019. Dr. Arrington is well known in the Milwaukee Community as an educator and most recently served as Principal of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. School. Dr. Arrington has also served as a commissioned minister at the church since 2014 and became an Elder in 2017. His objective is to personally and collaboratively leverage faith and professional resources to influence positive change in individuals, groups, organizations and communities. This aligns well with the mission, vision and values of the church, well-known for its positive impact in the community that it serves.

His hire is a part of the recently announced senior pastor succession planning completed by the church’s Elder Board. Back in March 2019, Bishop Harvey shared his desire to transition to the role of an Apostle/Overseer and to appoint Dr. Arrington in Spring of 2020 to the role of Senior Pastor. During the next ten months, Bishop Harvey and Dr. Arrington will work closely together to shepherd, coordinate ministry, extend pastoral care, develop leadership, build administrative systems and nurture community. In the Spring of 2020, the congregation will vote and confirm the new Senior Pastor.

Bishop Harvey is not retiring but repositioning into the role of Apostle. He will continue to serve as Senior Pastor through the spring of 2020 and will also continue his other leadership roles as President/CEO of the National Black Fellowship of the Assemblies of God as well as President/CEO of PRISM Economic Development Corporation after Dr. Arrington transitions to Senior Pastor.

Additionally, once the transition has taken place, as an Apostle, he will continue to be a part of the teaching/preaching pastoral team at the church and will serve to coach and provide guidance to the new senior pastor as he assumes full responsibility for leadership of the church.
This transition plan is all a part of ensuring that the church can continue the great legacy of faith and service to the Milwaukee community that has been built over the past 27 years of pastoral service by Bishop and Lady Judy Harvey.
