Milwaukee Public Library Calendar of Events July 3 to 9

Tour Historic Central Library
Tour the Central Library, 814 W. Wisconsin Ave., with the Friends. Free tours begin at 11 a.m. each Saturday afternoon in the rotunda. Tour goers receive a coupon for a free book at the end of the tour in the Bookseller Store and Café. To arrange for a special tour call (414) 286-TOUR.

Lunch and Learn
Enjoy lunch on us and discover something new over your lunch hour that will assist in making you a great parent. We’ll provide Cousins Subs, chips and water. Doors open at noon. Lunch will be available starting at noon. Registration is required; call 414.286.3011. Seating is limited. Money Smart. Life Smart. Catching the Eye: The Work of Environmental Poetry
Explore how poetry contributes to environmental consciousness with Prof. David Southward at the Tippecanoe Branch, 3912 S. Howell Ave., Wednesday, July 6, 6-7 p.m. Enjoy John Clare’s The Pettichap’s Nest, Robert Frost’s The Tuft of Flowers, and Elizabeth Bishop’s The Fish. In each, a speaker stumbles upon a natural artifact and experiences a peculiar, uplifting sensation. Discuss how, through the reading and writing of poetry, people become more responsive to the environment. Take part in a nature craft following the discussion.

Color Your Way to Calm
Color your way to calm at a drop-in coloring club for adults at Zablocki Library, 3501 W. Oklahoma Ave.,
Thursday, July 7, 3-5:30 p.m. Coloring sheets, art supplies and hot tea will be provided.

BYOD – Bring Your Own Device
Learn how to set up your iPad, Kindle, Nook or tablet to download free eBooks, audiobooks and magazines available to you as a Milwaukee Public Library card holder. Please bring your Milwaukee Public Library card and all passwords.

Exploring Nature at Washington Park
Join us as the Urban Ecology Center and the Washington Park branch collaborate for an afternoon of fun and discovery! We’ll start out learning about science and nature at the library, then head over to Washington Park and use what we’ve learned to explore the park. For children of all ages, parents welcome at Washington Park Library, 2121 N. Sherman Blvd., Wednesday, July 6, 1-3 p.m.

Amazing Eyes Story Time
Learn all about eyes at this special story time with staff from Prevent Blindness Wisconsin at Atkinson Library, 1960 W. Atkinson Ave., Thursday, July 7, 10:30-11:15 a.m. Free vision screenings follow the 30-minute story time.

Play & Learn
Imaginative play for families with young children at Washington Park Library, 2121 N. Sherman Blvd.,
Saturday, July 9, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Silly All Over. Catch a case of the giggles. Motor skills and self-control get a workout with plenty of stop-and-go motions, energy gets tapped with plenty of up-and-down, and sense of humor gets a tickle with silly sounds, silly movements, finger plays, and fun.

Playgroup With Stories
A 20-minute story time for children and their parents or guardian is followed by open play time with a variety of age-appropriate, educational toys.

Saturday Afternoons at Central for ‘Tweens
Yoga for Tweens at Central Library, 814 W. Wisconsin Ave., Saturday, July 9, 2-2:45 p.m. Learn fun yoga poses and breath play that help strengthen the body, increase focus and concentration, relieve stress, and help you feel great. Led by Stephanie Sandy of YogaConnects.

Preschool Story Time
Preschoolers are invited for fun stories, songs, and finger plays designed to help them develop important
