Susan G. Komen® Southeast Wisconsin has partnered with the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee to host “Pink Yoga on The Green,” a free yoga event that will take place on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 from 10:30 a.m. – Noon on the green space between the Klotsche Center and Sandburg on the UWM campus. The event will be open to all students as well as the general public.
May 11 is “Campus Study Day,” a day free of classes for students to de-stress and get ready for finals. Incorporating a free yoga event into this day will help students practice self-care, meditation and relaxation. The class will be co-lead by breast cancer survivor Amelia Coffaro and UWM yoga instructor Mary Ellen Metzendorf. Before and after the yoga class, participants can partake in Kohl’s Conversations for the Cure®, a free program presented by Kohl’s Cares® that educates participants about breast health and encourages women to get regular breast health screenings. Additionally, the Norris Health Center will be open for free breast exams.
Pink Yoga on the Green is a follow up to a four-week pilot program that Komen and UWM College of Nursing recently completed, focusing on healthy lifestyle choices that can reduce cancer risk.
We invite the public to attend Pink Yoga on The Green for a day of stress relief, self-awareness and interactive health education. The Facebook event can be found here.
