One of Milwaukee’s walking Black History monarchs still makes her way to events and celebrations throughout the city. The honorable Vel R. Phillips was the first African American female to serve on the Common Council, first African American Secretary of State, a judge, and activists who marched the streets of Milwaukee in the fight for Equal Housing just to name a few of her accomplishments, another Black History Spotlight for Milwaukee. Northwestern Mutual employees delivered more than 4,000 books to the Next Door Foundation as part of its National Black History Month awareness activities. The books were collected during the company’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service donation drive and will be used to advance the center’s educational program. MillerCoors celebrated Black History Month with a luncheon sponsored by the MillerCoors African American Employee Network (AAEN) that featured Civil Rights Activist Ambassador Andrew Young. Young took time to take photos with employees and invited guests following his keynote address.
