On Saturday, April 21st over 100 neighbors, friends and volunteers gathered at the Walnut Way Center to spruce up the neighborhood and prepare for the summer season.
A partnership with Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful armed clean up crews with supplies needed to tidy the streets. Volunteers from Wells Fargo, UPS, Americorps, Riverwest Co-op and Marquette Hunger Clean Up joined Lindsay Heights neighbors and friends in a celebration of collective impact. Here are the results:
2 dumpsters were filled to capacity
25 cubic yards of mulch was spread
20 raspberries were planted
18 fruit trees were weeded and mulched
1 vacant lot transformed into an urban orchard
Over 100 people gathered in peaceful celebration “We are intentional in recognizing this event as more than just a ‘clean up’. Together we are “lifting up” our community through our actions, prayers, hopes, and connections. Residents and volunteers gathered with a purpose and belief they can create a better world together. Many hands make light work. We thank all our friends, supporters and volunteers for helping to make Neighborhood Lift Up 2012 a success!” stated Walnut Way organizers.
Also, a reminder to the community, Lindsay Heights will host its Report to the Community (R2C) on June 6, 2012 at North Division from 5-8 pm. R2C brings together all the amazing folks who live and serve in the Lindsay Heights community. During our gathering, we learn what has been accomplished in the past 6 months and what to look forward to in the future. Please see our website for a summary of the last R2C event held on November 21, 2011.
