Milwaukee County Supervisor Eyon Biddle Sr. will be introducing a resolution to create a Youth Task Force, consisting of community youth and adult leaders to develop recommendations on how to enhance the quality of life for youth in Milwaukee County.
“It’s a way to make sure that we, the lawmakers, are held more accountable and pay attention to the needs of our young people. They are our future,” said Supervisor Biddle. “I want the youth to have ownership of this process. Even if they aren’t yet allowed to vote, they are our constituents and should not be ignored.”
If the resolution is approved by the full County Board, the Task Force would convene in January 2012 and meet monthly to discuss a wide variety of topics including:
- Youth violence prevention
- Parks and recreation activities
- Youth Sports Authority
- Public transit
- Children’s court programming and youth services
- The creation of a youth county government program
- County sponsored youth employment opportunities
Upon completion of the task force, the recommendations will be presented to the County Board for review and possible implementation.
“This is a way to introduce to our young people and the community at large what the County does. This gives them a real stake in their government. In order to be successful in engaging and assisting Milwaukee County youth, the cooperation and commitment of local leaders in both the public and private sectors are needed. The youth task force is a critical and important aspect,” said Supervisor Biddle.
Supervisor Biddle is Vice- Chair of the Health and Human Needs Committee, which will consider the resolution at its next meeting on Wednesday, September 21 at 9:00 a.m.
