Harambee Neighborhood focus of Ways to Work

July 28, 2011

A program that helps working families with transportation to and from jobs will target a Milwaukee neighborhood thanks to a new grant. The JPMorgan Chase Foundation has donated $20,000 to support the Ways to Work program in Milwaukee ’s Harambee Neighborhood.

Ways to Work is a national program coordinated in Milwaukee County by the Social Development Commission (SDC). It provides low-interest car loans for qualifying working families who are struggling to find reliable transportation to and from work. It has been found that there are available jobs in the Milwaukee area but often they are located in outlying areas where there is not regular public transportation.

The grant is a continuation of JPMorgan Chase Foundation’s commitment to improving the economic conditions in the Harambee neighborhood. Outreach in that neighborhood will begin in the near future to inform families about the Ways to Work program.

To find out more about Ways to Work, visit the SDC website at www.cr-sdc.org, click on the “Programs” page and then on the “Ways to Work” link. Or call 414- 906-2822.
