All eyes are on Wisconsin

March 26, 2011

By Courier Editorial staff

Governor Scott Walker just took office for his new job in January, and here we are in March and his actions in his new job are grabbing headlines not too far behind the uprising in Egypt and departure of Mubarak, the earthquake and tsunami in Japan and even the uprising hinging on war in Libya.

Walker has set a new precedent for the State of Wisconsin, and it is not a good one, no matter how you look at it. Let us all stop the rhetoric of democrats versus republicans and the tea party versus both of them. The actions of this new governor, and the new breed of GOP leaders in this country are on a fast track to benefiting themselves, “by any means necessary”. How ironic that these words are being borrowed from the late Malcolm X.

The GOP agenda, “we want to do whatever is necessary to keep our money, make more money and protect it from taxes, and any other responsibilities such as paying workers fair wages, providing health benefits and safe working conditions. And then we want to protect OUR rights (money) by being allowed to fire workers, when it doesn’t benefit us for any reason that we want (right to work laws).

The GOP is using the financial recession, that their (Bush) administration caused to rationalize their agenda. Yet, all of their solutions protect their monies and programs that work for them (such as: estate tax cuts). They held unemployment insurance hostage in order to continue their own tax breaks on the federal level. And even in Wisconsin, Governor Walker made sure one of his first duties in office was to follow the GOP national agenda, protect the rich and their corporations, make sure their tax benefits upwards of $140 million is in tact, and then come back and whine about the state being broke.

Have you noticed that the people of Wisconsin have yet to receive even an explanation for this? Why? Well if you haven’t figured it out yet, Governor Walker is not working towards the best interests of this state. He is working for his “other employers”, and what he wants to be his future employers… Big Corporations and the National GOP. I have even heard some say he wants President Obama’s job, while this may sound ridiculous in conversation…it is true for the GOP. They want President Obama out of office, and as much as it may appear to be about race, it is more about class, and the fact that their selfish interests are not where this president’s concentration is. They don’t want the reeling in of Wall Street and Banks, they don’t want anything that prevents them from their run away financial games. And this entire ideology that began with President Reagan, on keeping the rich content so that the benefit of their wealth will trickle down to the rest has not worked even in the best of times, so why would it work now?

Let’s get real…Wisconsin has a chance to show the GOP,Governor Walker and the Wisconsin Republican Senators who refuse to listen to the people of Wisconsin, who they work for by recalling these individuals who have forgotten that they have Wisconsin constituencies not big corporations and the national GOP. All eyes are on Wisconsin, if Governor Walker succeeds with his outrageous policies, he will be a rock star in the eyes of the GOP and other republican governors across the nation. The madness needs to stop…People of Wisconsin need to use the power that they have VOTING POWER.
