Students from seven high schools will vie for traveling trophy

December 3, 2009

Milwaukee Public Schools in Drum Lines competition

Will the Rufus King Drum Line claim a “four-peat” or will another school interrupt the dominance? The answer will be pounded out when students from seven Milwaukee Public Schools compete in the seventh annual High School Battle of the Drum Lines. The event will be held at Rufus King High School, 1801 West Olive Street, on Sat., Dec. 5, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Participating schools include Audubon, Bay View, Rufus King, Hamilton, Riverside, Custer, and Vincent. The teams will try to take the First Place traveling trophy from the 2008 champions, Rufus King. Drum line teams have been practicing for weeks to boost their chances in the competition. The Rufus King “JV” unit will also participate in the competition. Vincent won the first two years and King has won the last three years.

Additional entertainment will be provided by the Fritsche Middle School color guard during the pre-show and the Mitchell School CLC dancers at halftime. Admission is $2.00 for adults and free for children aged 10 and under. Questions regarding ticket sales and additional information can be directed to the MPS Music Department at (414) 475-8050.
