On Sunday, March 24, 2019, at the Fiserv Forum during half time of the Milwaukee Bucks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers game, Marques Johnson No. 8 Jersey was retired.
Marques Johnson is the ninth player in Bucks history to have his number retired, joining Oscar Robertson (No.1), Junior Bridgeman (No.2), Sidney Moncrief (No.4), Bob Dandridge (No.10), Jon McGlocklin (No.14), Bob Lanier (No. 16), Brian Winters (No.32) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (No.33).
Throughout his 11-season NBA career that spanned from 1977-87 and 1989 -90, Johnson a was five-time NBA All-Star (1979, 1980, 1981, 1983, 1986) and three-time All-NBA honoree (1978-79, 1979-80, 1980-81).
The Bucks selected Johnson with the 3rd overall pick in the 1977 NBA Draft out of UCLA where he won the 1975 NCAA Championship under legendary head coach John Wooden and was named the first-ever recipient of the John R. Wooden Award following his senior season in 1976-77.
