With the 2016 Presidential election soon approaching, now is the time to let your voice be heard. This election season has been the most polarizing race in recent history where both candidates have reached higher than usual disapproval ratings. This is not a traditional race.
Voters can usually look at the candidates from the two major parties and compare their experience, their policies and their composure under pressure. In spite of any approval or disapproval numbers, only one candidate meets all the qualifications, and the other candidate does not.
Democrats are looking for success up and down the ballot; from the White House to the statehouses.
The Milwaukee Courier endorses the following 2016 candidates for office.
President of the United States: Secretary Hillary Clinton
Hillary Clinton is knowledgeable, well qualified and experienced. She served as the Secretary of State and was up front and center in the decisions made in the Situation Room as President Obama and his staff watched as events unfolded on the operation that led to the assassination of terrorist Osama bin Laden. Hillary served as U.S. Senator from New York, and worked diligently to help people injured during the 9/11 tragedy receive health benefits.
As First Lady of the United States, she worked with both Democrats and Republicans creating The Children’s Health Insurance Program, which now provides health coverage to more than 8 million children. Hillary’s experience extends to being the First Lady of Arkansas, a lawyer, a law professor and a fighter for causes that she believes in.
Numerous editorial boards including the Arizona Republic, San Diego Union Tribune and the Houston Chronicle have never endorsed a Democrat for president, and are abandoning their century old traditions by endorsing Hillary Clinton.
These publications believe what many voters know, Donald Trump is unfit for the presidency.
His divisive statements on Muslims, African Americans and Mexicans and his offensive remarks about women make him unfit. By feeding into people’s fears and prejudices, along with his childish tantrums when he believes someone is disagreeing with him, shows a poor temperament for someone looking to be the leader of this country.
Hillary Clinton’s campaign is one of inclusion. America needs a true leader to continue the legacy of President Obama in the White House.
She is a leader with experience, a steady hand and real solutions. That is why the Milwaukee Courier is endorsing Hillary Clinton for President of the United States.
U.S. Senator: Russ Feingold
Russ Feingold served as the Democratic U. S. Senator from Wisconsin from 1992-2010. Feingold will make history by winning back the same seat that he lost to Republican Ron Johnson six years ago.
Feingold has proven he can get things done and work with both Democrats and Republicans to create legislation. The McCain- Feingold Act, campaign finance reform legislation was co-sponsored by Republican Senator John McCain.
Feingold has stood for middle class working people and has been a strong supporter of the Affordable Care Act.
The Milwaukee Courier is endorsing Russ Feingold for U.S. Senator.
U.S. Representative for Wisconsin’s 4th Congressional District: Gwen Moore
Gwen Moore was elected in 2004 as the first Black woman elected to Congress from the state of Wisconsin.
Moore is an advocate for civil rights and women’s rights making strong statements against racial profiling and domestic violence. She’s fought for voter rights and pro-choice.
Moore is a member of the House Committee on Finances Services, the Housing and Insurance Subcommittee, the House Budget Committee and the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.
The Milwaukee Courier endorses Gwen Moore for U.S. Representative for Wisconsin’s 4th Congressional District.
