Election day is less than 40 days away. On September 26, early voting for the November election begins in Milwaukee.
Early voting is a powerful political tool, and is growing in popularity. In the United States, 34 states and the District of Columbia allow no-excuse early voting.
People in favor of early voting believe that it offers more convenient opportunities for citizens to vote, which increases the turnout. Others criticize that those who vote early could make bad decisions due to lack of information.
Anne Holton, former Virginia Secretary of Education and wife of Democratic Vice-Presidential nominee Tim Kaine, made a visit to Milwaukee this week for an Early Vote event at the Milwaukee DNC HQ office at 1857 E Kenilworth Place.
The Clinton campaign planned this event to encourage people in Milwaukee to participate in early voting.
“I think early voting is great, Democrats win when people participate and anything that makes it easier for democracy to work is great,” Holton said.
During this election the voter ID law is in effect in Wisconsin. Voters must present a valid photo ID at the polling place.
If you haven’t registered, you can register at the polling site with a valid ID, utility bill, tax bill or proof of residency. The registration deadline for the general election is October 19 and the general election is November 8.
