Congresswoman Gwen Moore “Not Having It” on Trump’s Birtherism

September 16, 2016

Today, Congresswoman Gwen Moore issued the following statement in response to Donald Trump’s press conference on his leadership of the “birther” movement:

“Donald Trump would like us to forget his years-long, dogged effort to delegitimize and disrespect our first African-American president — I’m not having it. None of us can ever forget, nor forgive this bigotry. It is time for the rest of America to take Donald Trump at his original and repeated word that he has never believed President Obama was born in the United States. Today’s press conference settles nothing. The character of our nation is at stake — by electing Donald Trump, we would open a chapter of darkness in America’s history that would overshadow the bright progress of President Obama’s historic and effective leadership.”
