Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is honored today to announce the endorsements of the following labor unions.

• Amalgamated Transit Union Local 998
• International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 494
• International Union of Painters & Allied Trades, District Council No. 7
• Iron Worker Local 8
• Milwaukee Area Labor Council
• Milwaukee Building & Construction Trades Council, AFL-CIO
• Operating Engineers Local 139
• Teamsters General Union Local 200
• United Steelworkers District 2
• Wisconsin Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals

“I am honored to have the support of these hard working men and women,” he said.

Mayor Barrett has worked hand in hand with these organizations to create and retain family supporting jobs in the city of Milwaukee.

The city has seen billions of dollars in new investments, which continues to lead to an increase in jobs. “In fact, at the end of 2015, there were more Milwaukee residents working than in any year since 2001,” said Mayor Barrett.

“The true yardstick in measuring the effectiveness of a government leader is tallying up how many of your people are finding work within that person’s community.

Mayor Barrett has proven he cares about the lives of working men and women and their families,” said Terry McGowan, President and Business Manager of Operating Engineers Local 139.

Barrett works hard every day to make Milwaukee a better place to live, work and raise a family.

All too often, that includes fighting back against those who repeatedly turn their backs on Milwaukee and pit people against each other instead of working to bring people together.

“Our affiliates and members are best served by a Mayor who continues to try and fight against the anti-worker policies of Governor Walker and supports labor’s efforts in family supporting jobs,” said Sheila D. Cochran of the Milwaukee Area Labor Council.

“We are even better served by a Mayor who isn’t dividing the city, so we proudly support Tom Barrett for Mayor.”

Candice Owley of Wisconsin Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals added, “Mayor Barrett supported programs such as the expansion of Medicaid services which Governor Walker rejected.

Expanded Medicaid program would have significantly improved health services for low-income families in the City of Milwaukee.”

Mayor Barrett loves city and goes to work every day, fighting hard to make a difference and build a stronger future for Milwaukee.

The hard-working men and women of these organizations have literally helped re-shape city’s skyline and fought with the Mayor to keep and create more good paying Milwaukee jobs.

“Tom is Milwaukee’s Mayor! Tom’s vision for Milwaukee is unfolding right before our eyes with unprecedented development, safe neighborhoods, living wage jobs, and the opportunity to get them,” said Thomas Millonzi, Principal Officer of Teamsters General Union Local 200.
