Senator Taylor: “Vote – It’s Your Voice”
MILWAUKEE – Wisconsin State Senator Lena C. Taylor (D – Milwaukee) and Milwaukee Alderman Russell Stamper II will be hosting the “Ezekiel Gillespie Get Out To Vote Rally,” October 21, 2014 located at the corner of N. 14th and Wright St. on Milwaukee’s north side from 5:30pm to 6:30pm.
“Hi, I’m state Senator Lena Taylor, and I will be hosting a voting rally to remind you to vote – that it’s your voice for the November 4th General Election.
“I hope you will join me on October 21st at Ezekiel Gillespie Park as we encourage others to vote and make sure that their voice is heard. Ezekiel Gillespie was an African-American civil rights and community leader who was denied the right to vote in Milwaukee and sued all the way to the Wisconsin Supreme Court, where he won and secured the right to vote for people of color in Wisconsin. At this rally we will address the recent Supreme Court Decision on Wisconsin’s voter suppression law, and encouraging attendees to get to the polls, and utilize the early voting hours that are available from October 20-31.
In our democracy, we have a great power and capacity to wield influence, but in order to do so we must show up on Election Day. I implore you to exercise your right and responsibility to vote.”
