Mayor Barrett officially kicked-off this year’s “Earn & Learn,” Milwaukee’s annual summer jobs program recently at the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board, along with a local Earn &Learn employer, MAWIB president and CEO Donald Sykes, and Milwaukee County Supervisor Khalif Rainey, a former summer jobs program participant. Also, dozens of Milwaukee young people, eager to enter the workforce, were on hand finalizing their summer job applications. The deadline to apply was May 16.
Each summer, the Earn & Learn program employs nearly 3,000 young people. Milwaukee’s summer youth employment program is a successful national model for summer youth employment. More than 16,500 summer jobs positions have been filled since Mayor Barrett began the program in 2005. (Photo by Robert A. Bell)
