Supervisor Stamper, Alderman Hines offer condolences to the family of shooting victim

May 11, 2013

In response to the fatal shooting earlier this week in Washington Park, Milwaukee County Supervisor Russell Stamper II said, “I am deeply saddened by yesterday’s tragic event and send my condolences to the family of 17 year- old Daniel Gardner. I will work to the best of my ability to increase and promote safety, anti-drug activity and crime prevention in my district and across the County. I will also work to promote neighborhood safety and to strengthen positive community partnerships.”

He continued, “Washington Park remains a great place for family and friends to gather and we have a lot of exciting things planned this summer. I still want to encourage the community to come out and participate. We cannot tolerate this sort of violence in our communities, and we can only eliminate it if we all join together to stop it. I urge those with any information about this tragic event to contact authorities as soon as possible.”

Ald. Willie Hines said: “Sadly, a young man was shot and killed in Washington Park in the aldermanic district I represent. It is a tragedy when any life is taken, and my heart goes out to the loved ones of the victim.

It appears that this was an isolated, targeted incident and should not reflect the community in a negative light.

Events, live music, and other great developments have all been a part of the many successes we have seen these past few years at Washington Park. I am committed along with residents, community partners and neighbors to not let this tragedy deter us from the positive energy and many great things happening at the park and in the community. “
