At the recent Board meeting of the National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI), BCDI-Milwaukee learned it has been ranked as the number #1 Affiliate in the country.
Under the leadership of the National President, Dr. Felicia DeHaney, NBCDI developed a list of criteria to rate the strengths and weaknesses of affiliates in providing services to Black children and their families.
Some of the criteria were number of members, types of programs, organizational structure, financial health, active board, policy and procedures, and an annual operating plan.
NBCDI has 22 Affiliates in 15 states.
Although all Affiliates are expected to deliver certain services, each also has initiatives designed for its particular community. In Milwaukee, BCDI has implemented: Entering the College Zone, Healthy Practices, Parent Empowerment Project, Love to Read, Raising A Reader, Zero to 5 Birth Alliance, a Child Caregiver Conference, Back to School Book Giveaways, Advocacy initiatives, and other activities. BCDI has also partnered with national, state, and local organizations to provide other coordinated services.
Wanda J. Montgomery, founding member and current Board President, has played an major role in guiding BCDI-Milwaukee toward this achievement. She and the entire Board of Directors are committed to improving the lives of Black children and their families.
BCDI-Milwaukee invites the community to join the cause as it continues to serve children and families.
