Former Milwaukee County Supervisor Nikiya Harris was sworn in to serve in the seat of State Senator held for years by Spencer Coggs. Coggs vacated the seat following his successful bid for the first African American treasurer for the City of Milwaukee.
On Monday, Harris was sworn in as member of the member of the 2013-1014 Wisconsin Legislature. “I’m honored to represent the 6th district and eager to get to work on the pressing issues in Wisconsin, like increasing access to family-supporting jobs and quality public education, and reducing the foreclosure rate,” said Harris. The new senator has been appointed to serve on the following committees: Education; Judiciary and Labor; Government Operations, Public Works, and Telecommunications. She is also the ranking member on the Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules. During her office opening Sen. Harris thanked Coggs for his years of service and dedication to the people of Milwaukee. (Photo by Greg Anderson)
