Tom Barrett deserves to be governor

May 26, 2012

Tom Barrett has earned our vote in the recall election June 5. Not only has current Gov. Scott Walker failed us with his “divide and conquer” strategy, but also Tom Barrett has been a non-stop fighter for our communities.

Scott Walker gave out billions of dollars to rich people and corporations. He cut billions of dollars from our kids schools, universities and technical colleges. He tore us apart. He put restrictions on our sacred right to vote.

The result – while states across the country turned around with help from President Obama, Wisconsin lost over 20,000 jobs in the last year. Scott Walker has made us dead last.

And when you couple that with Tom Barrett’s strong record, the choice is clear. Here are just a few of the ways Tom Barrett has fought for our communities:

Tom worked to get us a $36 million federal grant to ease the impact of high rates of mortgage foreclosure in city neighborhoods. These funds supported the purchase and rehabilitation of foreclosed, vacant properties to create more affordable housing and renew neighborhoods. Scott Walker stole $26 million of them to plug a hole in his budget.

Tom obtained $28 million for a new Milwaukee Job Corps, so people can get the skills to get jobs that support families.

Tom secured a $1 million grant to train workers for jobs in the new green economy.

Tom led the fight to get Milwaukee expanded funding for our Boys and Girls Clubs Community Learning Centers.

Tom spearheaded the “I Have A Dream-Milwaukee” initiative to get our kids access to higher education.

As our governor, Tom Barrett will end Scott Walker’s war on Wisconsin’s values. He will bring people together, neighbor- to-neighbor, and focus on creating jobs.

On June 5, the choice for us couldn’t be clearer: Tom Barrett deserves our vote.
