Free Summer Meals HERE” signs to be displayed outside meal sites throughout Milwaukee
Once again dinner will be served to thousands of children in Milwaukee, thanks to a partnership between Hunger Task Force and Kohl’s Department Stores. Kohl’s Cares committed $1.5 million over three years to Hunger Task Force to create the Kohl’s Serving Up Supper for Kids program, which provides nutritious suppers to Milwaukee children in need throughout the summer months when school meals are not available. Summer is traditionally a high-risk period for hunger because children in need are not receiving their usual school meals.
Kohl’s Serving Up Supper for Kids kickoff will feature teams of volunteers at the Hunger Task Force warehouse loading green “Free Summer Meals HERE” signs into their vehicles. The teams disperse, deliver and display signs at meal sites throughout the city if effort to create awareness of this program.
The Milwaukee Model of combining different community groups to help feed children during the summer has been nationally recognized by the USDA. Kevin Concannon, USDA Under Secretary of Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services, will attend the event.
