YMCA partners with Milwaukee Fatherhood Initiative with 30 plus Men’s Basketball League

October 22, 2011

The YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee (the Y) has partnered with the Milwaukee Fatherhood Initiative (MFI) and former Milwaukee Bucks All-Star Sidney Moncrief to launch a 30+ Men’s Basketball League at the Parklawn YMCA that is dedicated to promoting and celebrating responsible fatherhood.

Through a variety of curriculum- based activities, designed specifically for the Milwaukee Fatherhood Initiative and the Y by 5-time NBA All-Star Sidney Moncrief, the primary goal of the league is to increase the number of children with involved, responsible and committed fathers (and/or father-figures) in their lives.

The league is seeking men 30 years of age and older who are looking to fulfill their role as fathers, or in special cases have a desire to strengthen the existing relationship with their own father. Value-based, skill-building opportunities will be provided to players that are designed to help them grow as men and as parents. Participants will be exposed to an evidence-based curriculum that will enhance existing knowledge, create new opportunities for learning and increase their overall understanding of the father/child relationship.

The league will be offered on Sundays from 1-5 p.m. beginning November 6 and running through January 29 at the Parklawn YMCA, located at 4340 N. 46th Street in Milwaukee. The cost is $450 per team and requires a minimum of eight team members and a maximum of 12.

For more information about the 30+ Men’s Basketball League or to register, please contact Nick Buerger at (414) 374-9457 or nbuerger@ymcamke.org.
