All activities are facilitated by YMCA staff and volunteers and areorganized so that family members of any age and ability can play, all within a safe and nurturing environment.
July 28 – August 25, Concerts in the Gardens, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., Boerner Gardens: – Enjoy live music performances every Thursday at Boerner Gardens. Admission is free and food and beverages are available for purchase from Bartolottas. Paul Cebar Tomorrow Sound, a funk and polyglot rhythms back, will perform July 28. Concord Chamber Orchestra, providing classical music performances since 1975, will perform August 4. Christopher’s Project, a localfavorite that mixes the sound of Jazz, Urban, R&B and funk for a soulful experience will perform August 11.
July 28 – September 22, Jazz in the Park, Cathedral Square, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.: Jazz in the Park is Milwaukee’s favorite free, outdoor, summer music series, featuring an eclectic lineup of jazz, big band, funk, R&B, reggae, blues and more. Performers come from across town or across the country. Concerts take place Thursday evenings, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. from June 2 through September 22, in Cathedral Square Park.
July 28, Clarke Square Concert, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.: As part of the Summer Best Parks Concert series, Supervisor Marina Dimitrijevic will present an event featuring The Spanglish Band. The band plays Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Latin Rock, Cumbia, Reggaeton, Funk, R&B and much more.
July 28, Gordon Park Concert, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.: As part of the Summer Best Parks Concert series, Supervisor Willie Johnson will present an event featuring The Eddie Butts Band.
The band plays a delicious blend of jazz, pop and R&B. The Eddie Butts Band is one of the longest-running, most successful bands in Wisconsin and the Midwest.
July 29, Nite-Glow Golf, 8:30 p.m., Warnimont Golf Course: Every Friday night, now until September 9, experience golf after dark at one of two locations, Hansen Golf Course or Warnimont Golf Course. The location for nite-glow golf alternates weekto- week between the two courses. Only tees, flag sticks and holes are illuminated during this experience, and players use glow-in-the-dark golf balls. Currently, if you sign up for nite glow golf on August 5, you will receive a free State Fair ticket. Nite-glow golf will be offered at Lake Park on August 5 only, too.
July 29 – August 26, Fish Fry in the Parks, 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.: Kickoff the weekends, now until Labor Day weekend, with a traditional Milwaukee Friday Fish Fry offered at three parks golf course clubhouses: Brown Deer, Grant and Whitnall.
July 30, McGovern Park Concert, 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.: As part of the Summer Best Parks Concert series, Supervisor Nikiya Harris will present an event featuring Keep’N It Clean, a band comprised of a strong three piece rhythm section and three dynamic vocalists. DJ Infotek will also provide music throughout the event.
July 30, Milwaukee Brewfest, McKinley Park Pavilion, 2 p.m.: Working with a number of craft breweries, sponsors and civic groups, Milwaukee will host it’s second annual 2011 Milwaukee Brewfest on Saturday, July 30th. Milwaukee Brewfest will be held at the Old Coast Guard Pavilion Park on Milwaukee’s lakefront. Participants are offered unlimited sampling of over 150 craft beers and micro brews from around the world.
July 30, Tour de Fat, Humboldt Park Band Shell, 10 a.m.: Tour de Fat is the country’s merriest festival of bikes, costumes and whimsy that hits 13 U.S. cities this year, including Milwaukee for the second time! The recipient of the Milwaukee festival’s proceeds will go to the Bicycle Federation.

August 2-August 30, Chill on the Hill, Humboldt Park, 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.: Voted best outdoor concert series, Chill on the Hill features local bands and vendors every Tuesday night at Humboldt Park’s band shell in the summer. It’s free and it’s entertaining. The Aqua Knots, a rock band; Informal Blues an acoustic & folk group; and Orpheus will perform August 2. Kinsella Academy of Irish Dance, a group of Irish Dancers; and Reilly, and Irish rock band will perform August 9.
August 2 – August 30, August Nights Concert, Jackson Park, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.: Every Tuesday, August 2 – August 30, enjoy a free concert in the park at Jackson sponsored by North Shore Bank. The Squeezettes, a power polka, pop and rock group will perform August 2, and King Comets, a rock & roll band will perform August 9.
August 2, National Night Out & Concert, Kosciuszko Park, 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.: It’s the 7th Annual Southside National Night Out Celebration Tuesday, August 2, at Kosciuszko Park & Pelican Cove. Come and enjoy live entertainment, food, and free admission to Pelican Cove. Cache, a band that mixes Caribbean and Latin music together, will put on a live performance.
August 3-August 31, Wednesdays at the Shell, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., Washington Park: Every Wednesday, now until August 31, enjoy a free concert in the park at Washington’s band shell. Performing August 3 is KT’s Universal Love Band. The band mixes various reggae and Nigerian pop flavors. Performing August 10 is The Barrettes as part of Brew City Bruisers Night. The Barrettes is an Indie, pop punk and rock group. The show begins at 6:30 p.m.
August 3, Dineen Park Concert, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.: As part of the Summer Best Parks Concert series, Supervisor Michael Mayo will present an event featuring The Eddie Butts Band. August 3, The Legends II Qualifier, Whitnall Golf Course, 8 a.m.: Enjoy 18 holes at The Legends Best Ball Shootout, presented by The Village of Manor Park in conjunction with Milwaukee County Parks, for a chance to win prizes and your claim to fame. The format of the shootout is four-ball stroke play with net champions in each division. Top teams from each division will advance to the finals at Brown Deer Golf Course, where they’ll play for free, on Monday, September 19, 2011.

August 5-6, Malibu Open Waterski Championships, Juneau Lagoon in Veteran’s Park: – Milwaukee County Parks and Malibu Boats is bringing back the most anticipated water skiing competition to the lakefront. Professional water ski athletes from across the county will compete in the two-day event for $65,000 in prize money. The event is free to the public.
August 6, Back to School Festival, King Community Center, 11:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.: The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Back to School celebrates its 17th Anniversary giving back to the community and providing kids with the supplies they need to return to school.
August 6-7, Air & Water Show, Bradford Beach, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.: The Air & Water Show is now Milwaukee’s largest free event for the general public, and the most recognized family-oriented event. It is a major destination event that brings both out of state and interstate tourism to the City of Milwaukee’s lakefront. In addition to spectacular air and water shows, there will be many exhibits, sponsor displays, military recruiting areas, simulator rides, real jet cockpits, and other special attractions at the Air Show.
August 11, Smith Park Concert, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.: As part of the Summer Best Parks Concert series, Supervisor Theodore Lipscomb will present an event featuring AhVantSoul with Jon Pierre Gee and Kat Webb. The group is soul and R&B. The concert begins at 6:30 p.m.
August 13, Wisconsin State Fair, 10 a.m.: The Kosciuszko Community Center is hosting the Wisconsin State Fair Park Bench Press And Dead Lift. The competition will take place at the Jeffrey Scott Activity Stage at State Fair. It begins at 10 a.m. The contest is for everyone, females and males of any age.
