PHOTO OF THE WEEK – Wisconsin African American Womens Center 15th Annual Hat Luncheon

June 11, 2011

PHOTO OF THE WEEK

State Senator Spencer Coggs (center) proudly stands with his wife, Gershia and Ruby Jackson, events coordinator for the Wisconsin African American Women’s Center (WAAW) at the center’s 15th Annual Hat Luncheon. This year’s event was held with the theme of ‘Faces of Hope’. The annual event serves as a fundraiser for the WAAW center, which serves as a small business incubator, training center and community resource facility to “empower and enhance women”. Sen. Coggs shows off his auction paddle that won him the hat for his wife that she is wearing. The hat was a hat once owned by Oprah Winfrey, and was donated for the auction by her mother, Vernita Lee of Milwaukee. (Photo by Yvonne Kemp)
