Urban Day School, a 43- year old central city neighborhood school offering Early Childhood and Elementary Education and serving close to 1,000 students in Milwaukee’s poorest areas, will again offer a summer Food Service Program in collaboration with the US Department of Agriculture and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction School Nutrition Program at its two campuses:

The free program, for children 18 years and younger, will be offered Monday through Friday beginning Monday, June 13, 2011 through Friday, August 12 (except for Monday, July 4). The campus sites will be open for breakfast from 7:00 am to 8:00 am; and from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm for lunch.
In announcing the 2011 Program, John Plantenberg, President, stressed the importance of good nutrition for urban children, and said, “As a neighborhood school, we welcome all children and strongly encourage parents to take advantage of this opportunity to help meet the nutritional needs of their children during the summer months when free and reduced price school meals are not available.”
Persons over 18 years of age who are determined by a state or local public educational agency to be mentally or physically disabled and who also participate in a public or private non-profit school program during the regular school year are eligible for the Urban Day free summer meal program as well.
The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and is administered by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI). Meals are provided to eligible children regardless of race, color, national origin, age, gender or disability and without discrimination in the course of meal service.
