MATC’s Annual American Indian Contest Pow Wow set for May 7

April 23, 2011

Milwaukee Area Technical College will hold its 31st annual Contest Pow Wow, Saturday, May 7, at in the Original Cream Puff Pavilion at Wisconsin State Fair Park, 8200 W. Greenfield Ave. The free, public event runs from 3-9 p.m., with grand entry by American Indian dancers in full regalia at 4 p.m.

The Pow Wow will include American Indian dances, songs and drumming. Vendors will sell American Indian tacos, crafts and artwork. There will also be a raffle for a Chief Joseph-designed Pendleton blanket. The event is sponsored by MATC’s Native American Student Movement, and co-sponsored by the American Indian Student Services Office and the Office of Student Life. The Pow Wow is the culmination of a celebration of American Indian Awareness events at MATC.
