Residents who do not currently have an account with a bank or credit union have the opportunity to change that.
A Get Checking workshop will be offered April 13 from 5 to 8:30 pm through Consumer Credit Counseling Service and the Social Development Commission.
The Get Checking session is intended to help people who have had an unsuccessful relationship with a bank or credit union in the past as well as those who have never had a checking or savings account. The workshops are designed to connect those residents with traditional banking services. The benefits of having a checking or savings account include offering a way to improving your credit score, being less expensive than paying for check cashing and money orders, and offering a way to access other financial services like loans and credit.
The Get Checking workshop will be held April 13 at the Social Development Commission office at 4041 N. Richards Street.
To sign up for the session, call 414-906-2834. There is a $40 fee for one person and $60 for a couple, payable through a money order or cashier’s check.
