Wisconsin is now Smoke-free, How About You?

November 27, 2010

The Wisconsin Tobacco Prevention and Poverty Network of the Salvation Army recently hosted a Zip Code Project event titled Wisconsin is now Smoke-free, How About You? For many understandable reasons, including deliberate targeting by the tobacco companies, African Americans and impoverished smokers have not benefited from state tobacco control efforts like the general population has. Innovative outreach methods, like this event, can reduce tobacco-related disparities. During the event, the community was educated on the quit smoking process, and a majority of the audience signed up for help; some residents were ready to quit smoking right away, and others planned to quit within six months.
