“Joy! – A Soulful Celebration of the Season”
Calvary Baptist Church and Greater Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, two of Milwaukee’s historic African American Churches, collaborate to present, “Joy! A Soulful Celebration of the Season”, a contemporary Christmas Cantata, arranged by Dave Williamson, and containing arrangements of old favorites such as, “Joy To The World”, and “Go Tell It On the Mountain”, along with the original contemporary selections by John P. Kee, Kirk Franklin and Donna Summer.
Two Sunday performances at 4:00 p.m. of the Cantata are scheduled on the following dates with the respective pastors providing narration:
December 12 – Greater Galilee, 2432 N. Teutonia Avenue, Rev. Dr. Johnny C. White Pastor
December 19 – Calvary, 2959 N. Teutonia Avenue, Rev. Dr. John R. Walton, Jr. Pastor
The combined choirs of approximately 50 voices, featuring soloists from both churches, will be directed by Calvary’s Carol Haywood, accompanied by Greater Galilee’s Audrey Murphy, on keyboard; Zenobia Ward Taylor, Calvary’s Organist, and other outstanding instrumentalists.
This year’s Cantata, Joy”, includes some outstanding songs, and the Choirs began rehearsing in early October. We invite everyone within the Church Families, and the surrounding communities to join us for what has always been a very meaningful and uplifting Christmas experience of JOY!
