The debate that took place between Tom Barrett and Scott Walker on Friday, Oct. 15 proved to my community and myself that Scott Walker will do and say anything to get elected.
It was an awakening reality as to what a career politician Walker really is. Not only would he not take responsibility for his actions as County Executive, but it was very evident that the nonsense coming from his mouth was only said to get voters, not because he cares for the whole state of Wisconsin, like Tom Barrett.
Throughout the debate, there were a number of issues that were brought up which Scott Walker had said one thing, but then went around and did another. These issues were not minor, but they are important issues that matter most to Wisconsinites, especially the people in my community.
When it comes to jobs, a very important topic within my community, Scott Walker thinks he will create jobs for individuals across the state, but in reality his record proves otherwise. Since Walker has become County Executive, he has no record of creating jobs. Not only has he not created jobs, but also he has avoided opportunities to create jobs and he has criticized those who have created jobs, including his opponent, Democratic nominee Mayor Tom Barrett.
Examples include in 2009, he turned down a $3.1 million gift to be used for economic development and job creation, he dissolved the Economic and Community Development Division, he mocked Milwaukee 7, he claims he will end our high-speed rail initiative (which would create thousands of jobs), he continually criticizes the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and as of recently, he mocked Tom Barrett once more when he created a 68-page joke job plan. It is very evident, that not only are jobs not a priority for Scott Walker, but that he also does not take his position very seriously. This is just one example where Walker said one thing, but his record shows another.
As the debate continued, it was unbelievable to see how his positioned shifted once again when it comes to BadgerCare. In a community where BadgerCare is used, this is a program that is taken very serious. Whether he will end it, put time limits on it, or leave it be, is really up in the air. Depending on who Walker is talking to, his position seems to shift. This is just one more example of Scott Walker willing to do or say anything to get elected.
It also amazed me how Walker was able to talk in circles and not give a straight answer. One instance that stood out is when it can to Embryonic Stem Cell research. After seeing coverage and watching the debate, I really have no idea as to what Walker stance is on the subject.
Scott Walker so badly wants to become governor of the state of Wisconsin that he will say and do anything to get elected. But we do not need somebody who will say one thing, just to do another; we need an adult to be our next governor. We need somebody who will be honest with the people of Wisconsin, not someone who will just say anything in order to get elected. We need someone will to take responsibility and move our country forward. We need someone who will be a true leader for Wisconsin, and someone who will work for our next generation. We need someone like Tom Barrett.
