Celebrating 30 years of service to the Milwaukee Community

September 25, 2010

The Running Rebels Community Organization achieved a significant milestone this year in reaching 30 years of service to at-risk youth. This has been an exciting, at times formidable, and humbling period.

With the current economy, it has taught us to be creative and do more with less funding. We look back with a sense of accomplishment, and to the future with much expectation and hope in meeting the ever changing challenges of helping at-risk youth.

The agency Mission Statement is to provide programs that will assist Milwaukee’s youth in developing mentally, physically and spiritually, while also promoting community unity. Our activities are grounded in the belief that programs which focus on education and recreation are effective ways to provide youth with positive alternatives to gangs, substance abuse and other negative behaviors. Running Rebels has successfully expanded its After-School/Summer Program over the years by enhancing educational, recreational, prevention, and monitoring programs.

Major goals of Running Rebels include teaching values such as responsibility, discipline, accountability, and respect, while emphasizing achievement in school, and service to community. We offer at-risk youth with positive alternatives such as mentoring, tutoring, literacy, academic assistance, nonviolent communication techniques and music/performing arts. Running Rebels has continued to reach and impact at-risk youth through programs targeting specific needs and connecting with these youth, which is our passion and strength.

The Running Rebels Annual Scholarship/Awards Banquet will be held on Fri., Oct. 29, 2010, 6:30 – 9:00pm at the Italian Community Center, 631 E.. Chicago Street

This year’s banquet will focus on recognizing the accomplishments of both current youth who have been involved in Running Rebels programs and those past youth participants and staff in our 30 year history.

Through fundraising from individuals, foundations, and community supports, we intend to award $20,000 in scholarships to youth who are pursuing post high school education. Over the past 13 years, Running Rebels has awarded over $60,000 in scholarships while providing valuable support for youth who are working toward their educational goals.

We invite you to help us celebrate!

We need the help of the community to make this milestone event successful. There are opportunities to provide support and we invite individuals and businesses to join us at our banquet in October. We also ask that consideration in given in making a donation as a Table Sponsor, or Advertising Sponsor, and/or donate to our Scholarship Fund. It is a magnificent time for us to celebrate the hard work that the youth have done all year – please consider helping us to make our 30th year especially joyful and beneficial for these youth.
