Local groups challenge Milwaukee area residents to “Know It’s Local”

August 6, 2010

Five local organizations challenge Milwaukee area residents to eat locally for the first two weeks in September as part of Milwaukee’s fourth annual Eat Local Challenge.

The Challenge encourages participants to make a conscious choice in learning more about food sources and choosing local producers.

The Urban Ecology Center, Slow Food Wisconsin SE, Fondy Food Center Inc., Westown Association and Outpost Natural Foods, have joined together to organize the Milwaukee Eat Local Challenge, which is one of many local food challenges throughout the country that ask people in their respective communities to “know it’s local” in an effort to prove food choices really matter. During the first two weeks in September, residents will be asked to join in the popular slow food movement and participate in the Challenge. In addition to several activities and celebrations planned throughout the two weeks, the Urban Ecology Center will host a resource fair on Sat., Aug. 21, to help participants prepare to eat locally.
