The 3rd Annual MPS District Science Fair, sponsored by MPS Educational Services Department, is scheduled for Tuesday, May 4 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Milwaukee County Zoo – Peck Welcome Center, 10001 West Blue Mound Road. Project setup will take place in the same location on Monday, May 3, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The event is open to all MPS students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Participation is considered an effective and engaging learning experience for students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), as well as Reading and Language Arts.
Students apply 21st Century skills of inquiry, research, problem solving, data collection, collaboration, as well as verbal and written communication as they complete and present their projects.
The Science Fair is conducted this year in conjunction with National Lab Day. National Lab Day is more than just a day. It’s an intensive, nationwide initiative implemented by President Obama to build local communities of support to advance effective STEM education.
National Lab Day participation will foster ongoing collaborations among volunteers, students and educators. The effort aligns with the work of Milwaukee Public Schools in STEM education. Visit the National Lab Day website at http://www.nationallabday.org for information on activities, local support and projects.
