Supervisor Patricia Jursik is inviting County residents to the Grant Park Family Fun Day on Sunday, July 17. The event runs from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and features a wide array of fun activities and events for all ages. The park is located at 215 Lake Dr. South Milwaukee.
A “passport” for all the activities will be available at each location in the Park which can be filled out and entered in a drawing for prizes.
The fun begins at 8:30 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at the golf clubhouse, a talk about “Vegetable Gardening in a Small Space” by Judy Newman, and a ceremony with the Wil-O-Way Color Guard.
The next round of activities begins at 11 a.m., featuring open houses at Wulff Lodge and the Mill Pond warming house. The Friends of the Mill Pond will sponsor a Nature Scavenger Hunt with prizes. Wil-O-Way will showcase accessible gardening and manage an obstacle course.
The Friends of Grant Park will coordinate a tree walk and monarch butterfly display. In the afternoon, Boy Scout Troop 235 will host a campfire with ingredients for s’mores. Visitors to Grant Park Beach will also have the chance to compete at building sandcastles.
The day closes with a concert featuring Twang Dragons, a local country rock ensemble, at Grant Park’s Pavilion Area 5A from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Food and beverages will be available for purchase during the concert with a baked potato bar provided the South Milwaukee Lions Club, ice cream provided by the South Milwaukee Historical Society, and beer and brats from Milwaukee County Parks Catering. The “passport” drawing for prizes will take place at 3 p.m.
