The 1st Year Anniversary of Brentwood Church of Christ’s Alzheimer’s Support Group, an African American/Community Based Support Group, on January 23, 2010 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm. The event will be held at the Brentwood Church of Christ, 6425 N. 60th Street, Milwaukee, WI. This program is free and open to the public. Speakers will include Cassandra McShepard (Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Institute’s Spokesperson), Pearl Cannon (Brentwood Church of Christ’s Alzheimer’s Support Group Facilitator) and Tom Hlavacek (Alzheimer’s Association’s Executive Director). Alzheimer’s is an issue of importance for the community because the disease is more prevalent among African Americans, there is a greater familial risk of Alzheimer’s in African Americans and genetic and environmental factors may work differently to cause Alzheimer’s disease in African Americans.
