On Thursday, a suspect in the homicide of teenager and a man who hit a child with a van killed himself in a Chicago suburb.
According to an April 16 report by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Ricky Ricardo Chiles III shot himself in a hotel room as officers closed in to apprehend him.
Earlier that morning, the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) had acquired a warrant for the 27-year-old’s arrest.
The series of deaths that lead up to Chiles suicide took place in Milwaukee on Sunday.
While driving down 48th St., Archie Brown Jr., 40, struck a 2-year-old boy, Damani Terry, with a van. The child had run into the street suddenly.
Brown stopped the van and exited to stand by the body of the child.
It is then that the suspected Chiles opened fire, killing Brown as well Damani’s 15-year-old brother, Rasheed T. Chiles.
The two boys had been attending a party.
Chiles had a criminal history.
Mayor Tom Barrett emphasized a need for tougher gun laws and heavier penalization for repeated gun-related offenses.
“What I need to see and what I think is important is that we make sure that it’s a felony for carrying a gun without a permit and certainly in sentencing that has to be considered,” Barrett said at a press conference on Wednesday.
