Milwaukee, WI-A coalition of community members, activists, elected officials, and civic leaders gathered on Friday, October 17th at 10am in the City Hall Rotunda, announcing local events to commemorate the 19th anniversary of the Historic Million Man March.
On Saturday, October 18 at 1pm at the Wisconsin Black Historical Society at 2620 West Center Street, local leaders called on Black men to march against violence in the community in the area of 27th and Center and will held a panel discussion at 3pm on the themes of conflict resolution, operational unity, and solutions to the problems plaguing the Black community.
The Million Man March took place on October 16, 1995 and was called by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan.
It attracted nearly 2 million Black men and inspired a renewed commitment to uplifting the black community.
Organizers intend to revive this message to address the condition of Black Milwaukee.
“This was a call to black men to turn inward and acknowledge to God, to each other, and to the world, that we have been negligent in our responsibility to our women and children, and have been destructive forces in our community. As we acknowledged and confessed our faults, we made a pledge that we would atone for our sins and be better men, as husbands, fathers and constructive forces in our communities.” stated Student Minister William Muhammad, Wisconsin Representative of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and Muhammad Mosque #3 in Milwaukee.
