Lawmakers stand with city leaders, urge passage of bipartisan legislation in Fall Session
State Representatives, Mandela Barnes, LaTonya Johnson, State Senator Nikiya Harris and State Representative Evan Goyke who all represent Milwaukee constituents released a united statement regarding the recent increased gun violence crimes in the City of Milwaukee. State Senator Nikiya Harris and State Representatives Mandela Barnes, LaTonya Johnson, and Evan Goyke released the following statement Wednesday regarding the recent gun violence in the City of Milwaukee:
“As elected officials, we have an obligation to our constituency to take the necessary actions to ensure the public safety. We will work with city officials, and other lawmakers to address these unfortunate and senseless acts of violence in our communities over the past five days.
“Moving forward, we ask that our constituents remain ever-vigilant in their neighborhoods- report any and all suspicious activity to the authorities, and dial 911 immediately if gunshots are heard.
“We call on our colleagues to work swiftly, and in a bipartisan fashion, to pass much-needed legislation in the upcoming fall session that will tackle this issue head-on.
“Our constituents should know that we are being proactive in taking the necessary steps towards a safer Milwaukee, and that our immediate concern is the safety of the people and families in our communities.”
