Djdade Denson
A standout athlete as a sophomore at University School of Milwaukee (USM), Djdade Denson has continued to turn heads his junior year. He holds the school records in triple jump, the 100 meter dash, and missed taking over the long jump record by ½ inch. Denson, has grown to be a track and field phenomenon and has qualified to take his talents to the State May 31, in both triple and long jump. Denson will be the only athlete at State representing USM’s Wildcats.
Due to Wisconsin weather, four meets were canceled. Despite the cold and raining weather, Denson didn’t allow the lack of practice in regular season meets affect his performance at Conference, Regionals or Sectionals.
At the Midwest Classic Conference, Denson wasted no time making his presence felt at Brookfield Academy on May 14. Denson came in first place, in both triple and long jump taking the triple jump with a leap of 41’-9.5” beating Alex Idonije of Wayland Academy and a long jump distance of 20’-8.5” beating Jameryo Ricks of Messmer High School advancing to Regionals in triple jump and long jump.
On May 20, Denson once again made his mark in Regionals at Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School taking home a gold medal in long jump, jumping a 21’-05”, but he came in second falling short to number 1 seeded jumper Taylor Dennis of Shorewood High School jumping 43’-04”, again advancing and moving onto Sectionals at Whitewater High School May 25 in both triple and long jump.
At Whitewater, Denson would once again face number 1 seeded triple jumper Dennis Taylor. After advancing to the triple and long jump finals, Denson rose to the occasion and took first overall beating Taylor Dennis with a triple jump of 45’-3¾”. He came in #3 overall with a jump of 21’-8.5”, which sealed the deal sending Denson to State May 31.
