During the month of February, Tanzania Ambassador Mwanaidi Maajan along with her Minister of Information/ Communication, Mindi Kasiga travelled to Wisconsin from Feb. 19-22 to present investment/ trade opportunities in Tanzania to Wisconsin business and government leaders.
The Ambassador and Mrs. Kasiga came to Milwaukee for a series of events that took her from MATC to Growing Power to the Mayor’s Office. She later travelled to meet in the Governor’s office with Lt. Governor Kleefisch, WEDC officials, and Wisconsin sustainable energy businesses. From Madison, her next stop was Organic Valley in LaFarge, WI, to meet with Organic Valley’s leadership team and tour the facilities of one of the largest agriculture co-ops in the U.S. Following that stop, her visit concluded in La Crosse, WI to meet with Gundersen Lutheran Healthcare/ Global Partners officials to discuss health in Tanzania, as well as tour the Gundersen Lutheran facilities.
Hope in Tanzania Foundation was founded by Ryan and Laura Skaife in 2004 to promote and complete a largescale sustainable agriculture/ hydro-power project in south central Tanzania they discovered while sailing around the world in 2003. Since then, Hope in Tanzania Foundation has initiated a Milwaukee Morogoro, Tanzania international sister city relationship. The sister city relationship was established in 2007 to create a formal tie between Wisconsin and Tanzania. In 2008, Hope in Tanzania Foundation led a group of Marquette Unviersity students on a three week service trip to Milwaukee’s sister city of Morogoro. While there, they became immersed in the culture, helped plant trees and build a school, and donated health and school supplies to schools and health centers. In 2010, Hope in Tanzania’s initiative to send a donated Milwaukee fire engine to Morogoro was realized, with two Tanzanian fire fighters traveling to Milwaukee to be trained by the Milwaukee Fire Department on the pumper truck before it sailed to Tanzania.
