Rape and Sexual Assault are No Laughing Matter, Unless Your Name is Donald Trump

As a rape survivor, I was appalled to hear the Republican nominee talking so candidly about sexually harassing and assaulting women and then laughing about it. But to be honest, I was not surprised.

Trump has dropped bombshell after bombshell in this race. Last week’s release of his lewd recordings brought his candidacy to a new low. In an interview with Billy Bush, Trump said, “… when you are a star…you can do anything, grab them by the pu**y. You can do anything.”

Someone needs to wash that man’s mouth out with soap and water.

These recordings did not show a new Donald Trump. This is who Donald Trump is.

Throughout his life and campaign, Trump has offended nearly every minority group. He’s even earned the endorsement of current and former KKK leaders after he spearheaded the offensive birther movement, aimed at de-legitimizing our first African-American President solely on the basis of his race. He didn’t apologize.

He launched his Presidential campaign by calling all Mexicans “rapists”, and continued to double down on this offensive rhetoric at nearly all of his campaign events. He later went on to tell a distinguished federal judge he was not suitable to serve on the bench because of his Mexican heritage. He did not apologize for either of these baseless attacks, either.

Last week, he publicly demeaned a former Miss Universe winner for gaining weight, echoing his previous offensive comments towards Rosie O’Donnell.

And in the past few days, we have seen an even more explicit example of Donald Trump’s complete and utter disrespect for women with the release of his 2005 recording.

While Donald Trump tried to excuse his actions as “locker-room banter”, I’m not fooled. The American people know that there are no excuses for rhetoric as vile and crude as Donald Trump’s. We are not going to fall for his lies and spin. No matter what he says, the tape of Donald boasting about groping women shows us the real Donald Trump.

Through his offensive and vile comments, Trump has shown the American people time and time again that he simply does not have the temperament to be commander-in-chief.

Donald Trump’s tendency to insult, demean, and belittle will not move this great country forward together. His irresponsible rhetoric do not speak to liberty and justice for all. The fabric of America is woven by people of all shapes, sizes, creeds, genders, and ethnicities. That is something that Donald Trump does not understand, nor respect.

While Donald Trump has gone low, Hillary Clinton has gone high.

In the midst of all this mumbo jumbo, Hillary has continued to lay out her vision for an America that is stronger together. She has told us about her plans to bring Americans together and work with Republicans and Democrats to get results for the American people on health care, tax reform, clean energy, and other important issues. She showed a deep command of the policy issues that matter most to the American people.

And most importantly of all, Hillary has made clear that she wants to be a president for all Americans, not just the filthy rich.

I am proud to say I’m with her. Hillary Clinton represents what is right about America, while Donald Trump represents everything that is wrong.
