Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele Announces Update on The Domes

October 1, 2016

MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele today announced that the Tropical Dome is again open to the public.

Work to install mesh safety netting at the Tropical Dome, a short-term fix to ensure the safety of the public and Domes employees as the County explores a long-term solution to the challenges at the Domes, was completed on September 23rd.  Work is also underway at the Desert Dome, which is expected to reopen in early November.

A grand reopening event for all three Domes, sponsored by a generous donation from Northwestern Mutual, is being planned for early December.

And at the Show Dome, which reopened ahead of schedule on April 29th, the Fall Harvest Festival seasonal floral display featuring chrysanthemums is running through November 6th.

At the show guests will experience a stroll through the country. The farm-like setting includes scarecrows, cornstalks, and hay bales as well as a pumpkin patch. Antique farming implements will be seen throughout the show.

Creating a blanket of yellow-gold, honey, orange-bronze, and red are a variety of mums. Other plants lending color and texture to the landscape are Swiss chard, dwarf sunflower, ‘Ruby Moon’ hyacinth bean, and ornamental peppers, millet, and kale.
