On July 14, the U.S. Senate voted unanimously to pass the Emmett Till Unsolved Civil Rights Crimes Reauthorization Act of 2016. Now that the US Senate has acted, it is up to the House of Representatives to pass the bill (S. 2854 / H.R. 5067) and send it to President Obama for his signature so it will be the law of the land. This crucial legislation would update the 2008 law to better enable to US Department of Justice to re-investigate and re-prosecute closed cases which were motivated by hatred or disdain for a group of people.
